Exmouth and rolle college chess club
Exmouth & Rolle Faculty Chess Club is not a large club; indeed, it could scarcely be deemed even of medium size, having, as it does, only about a dozen regular members. However, this submission is based, not on size or tournament success, but on the contribution that this small band makes to chess in Devon and the West of England, in the hope we can demonstrate the idea that the small membership of any club need not limit its potential for positive activity.
The present Exmouth Chess Club was founded in 1935, although there is evidence of chess activity in the town before that date. Judging by the minutes from that time, the Club was well-supported, but tended to meet in a different café, restaurant or guest house every winter season.
